We had an amazing time at Albert Harris Elementary's annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration! Our AHES students, under the direction of Nancy Rosas-Lopez and Karen Reza, put on a fantastic showcase of dance and music! 🎶 Thank you to all of our amazing families who came out to support our students!

Last night, we celebrated our amazing 8th grade fall student-athletes, recognizing their hard work, dedication, and Bulldog spirit! Many of these young athletes are in their final middle school season, and we couldn’t be prouder of how much they’ve grown, both on and off the field. As they prepare to take the next step to the demands of high school athletics, we know they'll bring the skills and passion they've developed with them. We can’t wait to see all the great things they’ll accomplish!

Two teams from Martinsville Middle School- the Skibidi Toilets and the A-Team- competed against 16 other teams from around the region in the Go Tec VEX Robotics competition yesterday at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research! 🤖 In this coding and engineering competition, teams compete in a teamwork challenge and robot skills challenges that test their driving and coding abilities. Participation is a great way for these STEM-loving students to grow their engineering, coding, and collaborative skills. The A-Team walked away from the competition with the Most Enthusiastic Award 🌟 and both teams gained some memories and skills that will last a lifetime!

Thank you to our fantastic MHS student-athletes for celebrating Read Across America Week with our young readers! Yesterday, student-athletes from Martinsville High School travelled to Clearview, Albert Harris, and Patrick Henry to read with some of our classes. It was inspiring to watch these student-athletes sharing stories with our young learners. Thanks for helping us inspire a love of reading and learning in the next generation!

Yesterday, some of our preschoolers had a pizza party! 🍕🍕🍕 The party was inspired by the book "Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party" by Kimberly and James Dean, which classes read together to practice alliteration. For their own pizza party, these young chefs 🧑‍🍳 worked together to write a recipe for their pizza then actually got to create pizzas of their own while remembering the correct order of operations. Everyone agreed that the best part was definitely the taste test!

Balancing the demands of academics with those of athletics can be a difficult task, but these talented student-athletes make it look easy! Last night we celebrated Senior Night for our girls basketball players! This was an opportunity for the team and our community to celebrate our senior student-athletes who have given so much heart to their sport. We also celebrate and recognize the families who have supported each of these students along the way. Congratulations, seniors! We are so proud to call each of you a Bulldog!

Join us in welcoming the newest members of the Martinsville High School Chapter of the National Honor Society! We are grateful to have such an amazing group of student leaders in our schools who truly embody the NHS pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These principles, according to NHS, "are transformative keys that unlock potential, enhancing every student’s educational journey, and ultimately empowering them to make profound, enduring contributions to our world."

Last week, our MMS band hosted their First Performance National Day of Celebration concert event to open up our AVID Family Night! 🎺🎷🎵🥁 This day of celebration was created by the Music Achievement Council to celebrate, honor, and encourage the early achievements of music students across the U.S., providing a platform for these young musicians to showcase their newly acquired musical skills in a public setting! The students showcased the steps they have taken in their musical journey, and they have already come such a long way! We can't wait to hear them play again during their winter concert!

Our Clearview families had a blast last night at Clearview's Trunk-or-Treat celebration! Not only did students and their families get to collect candy and play games, each student also got to select a book to bring home to read with their families!

It was great to see so many of our community members enjoying last night's trunk-or-treat at MHS! Thank you to the Beta Club and SCA for organizing such a great event! We hope it will continue to grow and become an annual tradition here at MCPS!

Today, our PHES kindergarten students got a special visit from the Virginia Museum of Natural History! Students created some beautiful artwork while learning about the life cycle of a butterfly! 🐛🦋

Today was a perfect day for a field trip! 🍂 Our PHES and AHES fourth graders traveled to Fairy Stone State Park today to plant the native black willow trees they have been sprouting in their classrooms thanks to the Dan River Basin Association's Streamside Trees in the Classroom. Students spent the whole day outside at the park, immersed in all things nature. Besides planting their trees, they also learned about the important role riparian buffers play in protecting our waterways, the geology of fairy stones, played a trivia game, and more! Our MHS AP biology students also got in on the fun, preparing and facilitating some creative activities for the younger students! Thank you to all of our amazing high school students, teachers, and community partners who came together to make this day possible for our young learners!
