Martinsville City Public Schools is proud to announce that it has received two Awards of Excellence from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), highlighting the district’s commitment to excellence in school/community communication.
MCPS received an Award of Excellence in Writing of its article, “Martinsville High School Among Top Schools in Area for College and Career Readiness.” The article, a collaborative effort between MCPS Communications & Community Outreach Coordinator Callie Hietala, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Dr. Angilee Downing, and Coordinator of Humanities and Advanced Programs Cary Wright, was written in response to U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of U.S. high schools which did not take into account many indicators of student success beyond AP test participation.
“We recognized that the USNWR rankings didn’t fully capture the achievements of our staff, students, and teachers,” Hietala explained. This motivated us to dig deeper into the data and share a more accurate picture of our successes.”
The district received a second Award of Excellence for its updated website, which launched last year.
“Our website is often the first window into our school community for our families, for potential employees, and even for families considering moving to our area,” Hietala said. “It is a hub of information, a recruiting tool, and a selling point for our district. As such, we wanted a website that was bright and inviting, easy to navigate, and a true reflection of our vibrant school community.”
We are honored to receive these recognitions from this national organization of school communications professionals! These awards underscore our ongoing commitment to transparent, effective written and digital communication with our community. We look forward to continuing to share our success stories and providing you the valuable information you need for another great year at Martinsville City Schools!
