Martinsville City Public Schools is delighted to welcome Officer David Koger as the newest member of the MCPS family! Officer Koger has joined our team at Martinsville Middle School as the new school resource officer (SRO).
Koger steps into the position following the relocation of former MMS SRO Officer Alfredo Huerta to Martinsville High School. Huerta replaces Officer Shane McPeek who retired this year after serving for over a decade as an SRO with MCPS.
Officer Koger has spent 8 years working in law enforcement. He worked for 5 years with the Martinsville Sheriff's Office and has served for 3 years with the Martinsville Police Department.
Outside of work, Koger said he enjoys working around his house and yard. He is currently learning to farm, with the ultimate goal of being totally self-sustained.
"We're excited to have Officer Koger here at Martinsville Middle School," said MCPS Director of School Safety & Emergency Management T.J. Slaughter. "We're pleased that all of our K-12 schools have had SROs in our buildings for many years now, and we look forward to working with Officer Koger for many years to come."
MCPS has had SROs in every K-12 building for nearly a decade. They are a critical part of the multi-layered system the district has built to ensure students and staff are able to learn and work in a safe environment.
Welcome to Martinsville City Schools, Officer Koger!
